Community Rating System Program Mitigates Community Flood Risk and Reduces Flood Insurance Premiums

The Community Rating System (CRS) program is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages a comprehensive approach to floodplain management and rewards communities that exceed minimum floodplain management requirements established by the National Flood Insurance Program. 

The CRS uses a Class rating system to determine flood insurance premium reductions for residents. CRS Classes are rated from  a Class 10 up to Class 1. Bismarck is rated in the CRS Class 7, which entitles residents within the city limits and ETA to a 15% discount on their flood insurance premiums.

Emergency Management coordinates with city departments to apply for recertification annually to maintain our Class 7 status. To maintain accreditation, information is shared with the public including the annual flood mitigation progress report as well as an annual news release to provide awareness of flood mitigation options including availability of flood insurance and flood preparedness, response and recovery resources:

When visiting with your insurance agent to purchase or renew flood insurance, they should be aware of the Community ID applicable to the city of Bismarck and the Bismarck ETA.   The CRS program Community ID (CID) for Bismarck is 380149.
