Entrance and Utility Bill Drop-off Location Changing as Part of Public Works Remodeling Project

Public Works Building ExteriorAs part of the remodeling project for the City of Bismarck Public Works building, the public entrance to the building and the location of the utility bill drop-off box outside the building will change next week.

The drop-off box location for utility bill payments has moved about 50 yards north of where it had been previously located. Toward the end of next week the public entrance to the building will also be moved to the northwest side of the building. Accessible parking, which is currently located at the west-facing entrance, will be shifted north closer to the new entrance. These changes are needed to accommodate the construction of an addition on the west side of the building and will be in place through summer until the new entranceway has been completed.

The remodel is part of an overall $26 million project to create more space to accommodate the City’s Public Works Service and Utility Operations.

“This project will help create significant working space for the Service and Utility Operations equipment and staff,” said Utility Operations Director Michelle Klose. “The Public Works building has served us well over the past couple of decades, but these changes will help make the building more functional and allow us to continue to get the most value from the facility. The main features of the project are a Roads and Streets building, additional fueling points to assist during all activities including snow removal, equipment storage facilities, and extension on the main building working space.”

The City’s Public Works department employs about 200 individuals. The Public Works building is split between Service and Utility Operations and includes Roads and Streets, Fleet Services, Forestry, Street Light and Traffic Signal Maintenance, City Building Maintenance, Utility Billing, Stormwater, and Water Distribution and Collection.

The Public Works building, located at 601 South 26th Street in Bismarck was built in 2002. The remodeling project is scheduled to be completed in late fall of this year.
