Community Health Needs Assessment

A community health needs assessment provides the foundation for improving and promoting the health of the community. The assessment identifies and describes factors that affect the health of a population, and factors that determine the availability of resources within the community to adequately address health concerns.

Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health conducted a Community Health Needs Assessment through a collaborative effort with CHI St. Alexius Health, Sanford Health and the Center for Social Research at North Dakota State University.

Following the survey and prioritization of the health needs identified through the survey process, Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health chose concerns as priorities to be included in the department’s strategic plan. The community health improvement plan summarizes the process and outlines the strategies to address the concerns.

2019-2021 Community Priorities as Follows:

  • Access to Affordable Healthcare
  • Behavioral Health & Addiction
  • Cost of Care & Services for the Aging Population
  • Chronic Disease & Obesity
