What is a CLG?

A Certified Local Government (CLG) is a program to assist the US and state governments in implementing and administering the National Historic Preservation Act. The City of Bismarck became a CLG on April 2019 when the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) was created, and the HPC oversees all activities related to historic preservation. Funding is generally available each year, and the HPC plans activities, submits grant applications, implements the project activities, and reports on outcomes. Staff from the Planning Division supports the HPC in all of these roles.

More information is available from the State Historic Preservation Office on the CLG Program.
