[ARCHIVED] Citizens Are Advised to Keep Sandbags in Place

The river is still high and people need to be very cautious. Citizens are reminded to continue protecting their homes and are advised not to take any sandbags down at this point. While flows are forecasted to decrease, the river gage height is decreasing more slowly than anticipated. The river gage height currently remains over 17 ft.; flood stage is 16 feet. Flows are expected to stay at these higher levels during August and the forecast could change due to a significant weather event.

• Unused sandbags can be returned to the Bismarck Landfill during regular business hours from 8 am – 6 pm , Monday – Friday; 8 am – 4 pm Saturday.

Sandbag Removal and Disposal
a. Bid specs for Sandbag Removal and Disposal were advertised August 2.b. Bids for Sandbag Removal and Disposal will be opened the morning of August 9.
c. The Sandbag Removal and Disposal plan will come before the Bismarck City Commission for approval on August 9.d. Sandbag removal and disposal will include curbside collection by zones.
e. Residents in each zone will be notified of collection times at least one week in advance of the actual start of collection. Notice will also be provided to all local media outlets, the city website at www.bismarck.org, Facebook and Twitter.
