Today at 1:22 pm Bismarck Police responded to the William Guy Federal Building, 220 East Rosser for a report of a disorderly female who had assaulted someone from Senator Heitkamp’s office.
A 62 year old homeless woman, who is currently staying in a Bismarck motel, was at the Federal Building. A staff member of Heitkamp’s was working with the homeless woman on some sort of ongoing problem she has.
They were meeting in the hallway and another employee was observing from a distance in the event there was any trouble. At some point the homeless woman became upset and grabbed the staff member by the shoulders and shook her and was taking swings at her. The staff member was not injured.
This other employee intervened and informed United States Marshall Service contract employees who escorted the woman out of the building and turned her over to Bismarck Police Officers.
The woman was not arrested as it was a misdemeanor not committed in the officer’s presence. A report will be forwarded to the city attorney for possible charges of disorderly conduct and simple assault. The report will also go to the US Attorney’s office and Burleigh County States Attorney’s office for possible charges.
