At 2:45 PM, August 20, the Bismarck Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at 2130 South 12th Street, the River Ridge apartments. Initial report by the first responding fire department was that the building was being evacuated. Investigation discovered smoke in the hallway and in a first floor apartment on the south side of the apartment building. The sprinkler system had activated and extinguished a fire that had started in the kitchen; fire crews shut the sprinkler system down and ventilated the building to remove smoke.
The structure has an assessed value of 11 million dollars; damage is estimated to be around $10,000. There were no injuries. There are 146 apartments in this building. The only person displaced was the occupant of the apartment that had the fire.
