[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department Restricts the Use of Recreational Fires

In response to the extremely dry weather conditions that have created a serious fire threat, the Bismarck Fire Department asks citizens to refrain from the use of recreational fires when the fire danger rating is designated in the high, very high, or extreme categories and/or when a Red flag warning has been issued for the area.

Recreational fires in Bismarck are regulated and include: chimineas, fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, and portable outdoor fireplaces. These fires are limited to a total fuel area of 3’ diameter x 2’ height.

Governor Dalrymple declared a fire emergency and issued an executive order April 1 that places further restrictions on burning in North Dakota. A Red Flag warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for south central and southwest North Dakota which includes Bismarck, due to low relative humidity and strong winds supporting rapid fire growth. For more information about Red Flag warnings visit: http://www.weather.gov/bis/

We ask for the cooperation of residents to refrain from the use of recreational fires and to use common sense until the fire danger subsides.
