[ARCHIVED] Police Respond to Barricaded Incident

Bismarck Police Officers responded to the 3200 Block of E Thayer Ave at approximately 12:15 P.M. today concerning a male subject who had barricaded himself in his apartment.

The incident transpired when law enforcement agents went to the location to execute a federal search warrant.  At some point, while attempting to make contact with him, the individual named in the search warrant locked himself in his apartment.  It was determined that this person had a gun in his possession, therefore, the agents retreated and contacted the Bismarck Police Department, asking for assistance.

Because of the nature of the incident, the West Dakota Swat Team was activated and responded to the scene, along with the Crisis Negotiations Team.  Members of the negotiations team attempted to make contact with the individual but were unsuccessful.

The SWAT team then took the necessary actions to attempt to get the person to give himself up, which did include the deployment of gas.  After repeated attempts to make contact with the subject the SWAT team did make entry.  Upon entry into the apartment the person was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The deceased is a 32-year-old male who did live at the apartment.  No one else was in the apartment when this incident occurred.
