At approximately 6:00 AM, the Bismarck Fire Department responded to a report of smoke and flames coming from the residence at 2406 E. Thayer Ave. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the South side of the residence. Upon entering the residence Firefighters encountered fire conditions in the kitchen area of the residence.
The crews were able to extinguish the fire containing most of the fire damage to the kitchen area. An initial search revealed the residence to be empty. Three cats were found while conducting the search, all had perished. Crews remained on scene to check for remaining embers and hotspots.
No damage estimate has been made at this time but damage to the building is expected to be at least $30,000.00 and the damage to content is expected to be at least $10,000.00.
Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
