[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Burleigh Public Health Focuses On CommunityAwareness

Bismarck Burleigh Public Health (BBPH) in alliance with the American Public Health Association have a common vision to protect and improve our nation’s and our community’s health. The broad vision is to make America the healthiest nation in one generation. BBPH asks everyone to make healthy changes – big and small – in their families, individual neighborhoods, workplaces and schools. The goal is for Bismarck to be a place where everyone has access to health care including preventive services, where we’re celebrated for embracing healthy lifestyles and where our community makes the healthy choice the easy choice.

To support this goal BBPH supports the “Moving More, Eating Smarter” philosophy of buying foods grown by local farmers and producers, and by growing your own food. Bismarck provides a Community Garden that offers plots for $10.00 including water. BBPH also supports the North Dakota 2010 Hunger-Free Garden Project, a project that has challenged Bismarck to grow 8000 pounds of garden produce for distribution at local food pantries. All harvested produce from the project will be donated to Bismarck’s food pantries, allowing them to include fresh produce in food baskets.

Gardening for your own use or in support the Bismarck’s Hunger-Free ND Garden Project will help make healthy choices easy. YOU can make a difference creating a Healthy America: One Community At A Time. For more information about garden plots or to volunteer to help make Bismarck’s Hunger-Free Garden a success visit Gardening Brochure or Community Gardens or call 701-355-1540.
