The American Red Cross is initiating its recovery phase in the Bismarck and Mandan areas. While some people are still unable to access their homes, many are anxious to learn their options and receive clean-up kits.
American Red Cross Service Centers will be located at the West Dakota Chapter office at 4007 State Street in Bismarck, and First Lutheran Church at 408 9th Street Northwest in Mandan. The hours through Wednesday, July 19 will be:
· Thursday 4-7 p.m.
· Friday 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
· Saturday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
· Sunday 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
· Monday - Wednesday 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Red Cross client caseworkers are available to visit with people who would like to learn about the options available to them in the months ahead. Executive Director Janel Schmitz states, “Client casework is a way to shorten the learning curve for those affected by the flood. Residents can learn from experienced case workers and receive help developing a disaster recovery plan if they choose to do so.”
A meeting with a client caseworker takes 30-60 minutes depending on the amount of information requested by the client.
People affected by the flood will also be able to pick up clean-up kits at the Red Cross Service Centers. The clean-up kit includes items such as work gloves, bleach, safety goggles, hammers, rake, shovel, cleaning water, and cleanup information.
