Did you know a child car seat has an expiration date?
Did you know that car seats that have been involved in a crash are no longer safe for your child?
Those are just a couple of the reasons behind the Car Seat Roundups held every year by the Bismarck-Mandan Safety Council Community Child Passenger Safety group.
This year, through roundups in May, June and September, 190 car seats were collected and recycled. For each seat turned in, a gift card for a local business was given. Three groups worked hard to get those car seats ready to recycle: one group collected old seats and distributed gift cards, another group removed harnesses and padding, and a third group (with the biggest power tools!) removed rivets, springs, screws and other metal pieces. In the end, all helped to count the car seat shells, get them into the dumpsters and to clean up the site.
