Bismarck Police Issue Reminder on Mobility Impaired Parking
The Bismarck Police Department is reminding drivers they will be ticketed if they illegally use parking spaces designated for mobility impaired drivers. The fee for parking in a mobility impaired parking spot without a permit is $100. State law requires parking to be reserved for people with severe disabilities, to provide access and reduce the risk of injury. Parking illegally in spots marked for the disabled inconveniences mobility-impaired individuals and threaten their safety. It is also illegal for anyone, including legitimate mobility impaired parking permit holders, to park within the striped spaces, called 'access aisles,' adjacent to reserved parking spots. Some of the access aisles can be as wide as the actual parking space. Access aisles are required so that mobility-impaired individuals have adequate space to raise and lower ramps or lifts used for exiting and entering their vehicles. Please do not park in the access aisle with or without a permit. For more information, contact Sergeant Mark Buschena, 355-1874.
