[ARCHIVED] Bismarck City Election Key Information and Timelines

Municipal elections are held the second Tuesday in June of even-numbered years in conjunction with the state primary election. This year Election Day is June 12, 2012.

In 2012, the following officers will be elected:

Two (2) members of the Board of City Commissioners

Two (2) members of the Board of Park Commissioners

One (1) Municipal Judge

Beginning January 14, 2012, candidates for public offices may start collecting signatures. Packets are ready to be picked up at the office of City Administration at 221North 5th Street. Candidates over age 18 must have been a resident of the City of Bismarck for at least nine months prior to the election.

A complete filing must include a Petition/Certificate of Nomination (SFN 2704) containing the required number of signatures of qualified electors; a Statement of Interests (SFN 10172): and a class="Hyperlink" title="Campaign Contribution Statement (SFN 53970)" target="_blank" href="http://www.nd.gov/eforms/Doc/sfn53970.pdf ">Campaign Contribution Statement (SFN 53970).

Friday, April 13, 2012, is the filing deadline for the election. To get on the ballot, candidates must collect 300 signatures from Bismarck residents. Election administrators suggest collecting up to 350 signatures and turning in petitions at least one day before the deadline since some signatures may be eliminated for not being valid city residents.

Notice: Only complete addresses are accepted. Post office boxes are not considered a valid address.
