On 8-8-12 at 7:47 PM Bismarck Police along with other emergency personnel responded to the east side of the Missouri River concerning a 911 call claiming that an individual had jumped off of the railroad bridge. After confirming through witnesses that someone had indeed jumped, the Burleigh County Dive Team was called to the area. Members of the Morton County Dive Team also responded.
The individual has not been found and the search was suspended due to darkness last night. The Dive Teams resumed the search this morning at about 8:00 AM, with assistance from ND Game and Fish. The searchers are using side scan sonar from ND Game and Fish to assist in the search.
The individual’s identity is being withheld pending recovery, positive identification and notification of next of kin. The public is asked to please stay away from this area if possible and boaters using the river should use caution when approaching the area where rescue operations are occurring. If anyone either walking along the shore of the river or in a boat should come across anything that appears suspicious they should call 911 immediately.
