Because of a rise in the number of thefts being reported, the Bismarck Police Department is urging businesses, farmers, construction firms and anyone else who may have a supply of copper to secure it properly. It is not just bare copper wire that is being stolen; anything that may contain copper is a possible target.
Businesses that regularly keep a large supply of copper on inventory should consider their current level of security where the copper is being stored. Construction companies both large and small should lock up all tools at the end of the day, including extension cords.
Be mindful of any suspicious activity in your area. Make note of any persons who may raise your awareness and try to get a description of them and any vehicle they may be in.
Finally, if you have experienced a theft of copper please report it to your local law enforcement agency.
