Tornado Safety Tips

If you are in a tornado watch area, here are three quick tips to keep in mind:

1. Listen to NOAA Weather Radio or to commercial radio or television newscasts for the latest information. In any emergency, always listen to the instructions given by local emergency management officials.

2. Be alert to changing weather conditions. Look for approaching storms.

3. Look for the following danger signs:
• Dark, often greenish sky• Large hail
• A large, dark, low-lying cloud (particularly if rotating)• Loud roar, similar to a freight train

If you see approaching storms or any of the danger signs, be prepared to take shelter immediately.

Severe Summer Weather Information

Disasters in North Dakota over the past few years (floods, tornadoes, blizzards) have caused many to realize the need to be prepared, especially those whose health is most at risk during a disaster.

Bismarck Burleigh Public Health (BBPH) has created a pre-registration system to help identify where those who are most vulnerable can be found. Registering into this system provides location information for emergency responders and provides an awareness of your individual situation.

An online copy of the registration form is included below for your convenience to print and complete. If you need assistance filling out the form please call BBPH at 701-355-1540 and someone will assist you.

Please return the completed form to the address noted below.
