[ARCHIVED] Police Warn Against Police Imposter

The Bismarck Police Department is warning citizens to be aware of imposters who are calling, identifying themselves as Bismarck Police Officers, and asking for personal information.

In one recent call, reported to the Bismarck Police Department on July 1st, a Bismarck man reports receiving a call from a male subject claiming to be Detective Johnson with the Bismarck Police Department. The caller requested the man’s date of birth and social security number. The caller took the right steps by not giving any personal information over the phone, and by calling the Bismarck Police Department to see if the caller was employed there.

A similar call was made to a Burleigh County resident on Monday, also trying to obtain personal information.

Police are reminding people to never give personal information to anyone who calls you, unless you know for sure who you are dealing with. If you’re not sure, call the law enforcement agency or company back to verify the caller’s identity.

For more information, contact Sergeant Mark Buschena, 355-1874.
