[ARCHIVED] Black Widow Spiders Found In Grapes

Bismarck's Environmental Health Division has received a complaint of a black widow spider being found in grapes purchased at a local store. The spider was taken to the Burleigh County Extension office where it was identified as a black widow.

Recently there have been reports of black widow spiders being found in grapes from grocery stores in several states.

Residents should be cautious when handling grapes or any produce and should inspect and wash their produce prior to consuming it.

Black widow spiders, commonly identified by their red, hourglass-shaped markings, are venomous. Anyone bitten by a black widow spider should immediately seek professional medical attention.
