[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department Responds to House Fire

At 11:01 PM on January 24, 2014 the Bismarck Fire Department responded to a house fire at 1606 Wichita Dr.

The fire started in a garbage can where ashes from a fire place were discarded. The fire burned
combustibles inside the garbage can and the can itself, and burned up an outside wall into the
attic of the home. The fire was extinguished by the fire department.

The home was occupied at the time of the fire and the occupants were alerted of the fire by a
pet dog. There were no injuries. At this time damage estimates are about $15,000.

A reminder from the fire department, never discard hot ashes indoors, in the garbage, or near a
structure. Place them in a metal container outside and away from structures.
