Bismarck Police have arrested Richard Lee Gourneau, Sr., 57, Bismarck for an aggravated assault that occurred on November 26. The vehicle stolen from one of the assault victims has also been recovered.
This morning at 3:12 am, Bismarck Police received information from one of the assault victims that Gourneau, Sr. had sent her a text message saying the stolen vehicle was at Denny’s. Bismarck Police found the stolen vehicle parked in the Denny’s lot, and began searching the immediate area for Gourneau, Sr.
A Bismarck police officer was able to make contact with Gournea, Sr. by calling the number from which the text had been sent. Gourneau, Sr. agreed to turn himself in and said he would meet officers by the car. A few minutes later Gourneau, Sr. was arrested without incident when he was seen walking westbound near 9th Street and Bowen Avenue.
He was arrested for possession of stolen property and for a warrant for aggravated assault and taken to Burleigh County Detention Center.
On November 26 at 10:26 am, Bismarck Police responded to 1119 University Drive for a report of an aggravated assault involving multiple victims. The suspect was not at the scene when police arrived. There were five victims who were all assaulted in one mobile home.
A 2005 Honda Accord that was being used by one of the victims was stolen from her driveway sometime after she was taken to the hospital for injuries she sustained in the assault.
