[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department Encourages Everyone to be Fire Cautious - Fire Danger High

Due to the ongoing dry conditions, the Bismarck Fire Department is asking all residents in the City of Bismarck to continue taking extra precautions, even when North Dakota Fire Danger Rating is Low, Moderate or High.

• All smoking materials should be disposed of in proper containers. Remember; never throw cigarette butts out of the windows of vehicles.
• Do not use charcoal grills in parks or recreational areas.• Recreational fires (fire pits, chimineas, outdoor fireplaces, and portable outdoor fire places) are not allowed at this time.
• Remain extra vigilant when using gasoline-powered tools and equipment around vegetation. These include lawn mowers, lawn trimmers, chain saws, lawn tractors, etc.Gas grills are allowed. Ensure it is on a flat surface and all hoses and connections are in good condition to reduce the possibility of malfunction.

Charcoal grills are allowed in one- or two-family dwellings or approved events. Give the grill a thorough inspection before use and do not leave it unattended. When done grilling, extinguish the charcoal with water or leave the coals in a cover metal container. Charcoal grills should not be used during Very High, Extreme or Red Flag conditions.

The Fire Rating Rating can be found on line at www.weather.gov/bis/fire.

The Bismarck Fire Department appreciates the public’s cooperation in helping keep our community safe. The restrictions should be followed until conditions improve.

We ask for the cooperation of residents to refrain from the use of recreational fires and to use common sense when weather conditions are windy and dry.
