[ARCHIVED] 2016 Election Procedures for Candidates

On Tuesday, June 14, 2016, a city election will be held in the City of Bismarck for the purpose of electing the following city officials:

Two (2) Members of the Board of City Commissioners, each to serve four (4) year terms on the Board of City Commissioners.

Two (2) Members of the Board of Park Commissioners, each to serve four (4) year terms on the Board of Park Commissioners.

One (1) Municipal Judge, to serve a four (4) year term.

The election will be held in conjunction with the State Primary Election at the polling places and times established by Burleigh County.

On Friday, January 1, 2016, candidates for public offices may start collecting signatures. Packets are ready to be picked up at the office of City Administration at 221 North 5th Street. Candidates must be over age 18 and have been a resident of the City of Bismarck for at least nine (9) months prior to the election.

Candidates must file the required forms with the Bismarck City Administrator at 221 North 5th Street no later than 4:00 p.m., Monday, April 11, 2016. Election administrators suggest collecting up to 350 signatures and turning in petitions at least one day before the deadline since some signatures may be eliminated for not being valid city residents. Only complete addresses are accepted. Post office boxes are not considered a valid address. Filings must be in the physical possession of the city administrator’s office by the filing deadline.

Campaign Contribution Statements (SFN 53970) must be filed with the Bismarck City Administrator at 221 North 5th Street, Bismarck, by May 13, 2016.
