Today at 2:37 a.m., Bismarck Police responded to a third party report of a stolen vehicle out of Mandan. An officer located the stolen vehicle on S 3rd St and gave verbal commands to the driver. The driver ignored commands and drove the vehicle at the officer. The officer discharged his weapon into the vehicle to protect himself. The vehicle fled the scene and was stopped by law enforcement in Emmons County. The suspect was found to have two gunshot wounds and was airlifted to a Bismarck hospital.
The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) has been called to investigate. The officer was not injured. Per department policy, the officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
The suspect has not been positively identified at this time. The case is under investigation.
