On January 20th Bismarck Police received a BOLO (Be On the Look Out) for a 27 year old Bismarck man who was wanted for a burglary – forced entry into a residence – no bond, which originated in Morton County. According to the BOLO the suspect had broken into his ex-girlfriend’s house and he had a revolver. The victim believed the suspect would kill her and her child and then himself. He left in a dark green Maxima. Police have been looking for him since receiving this BOLO.
Tonight at 6:08 p.m. Bismarck Police received a call from Mandan P.D. asking us to check an address on the 1000 row of 1119 University Drive for this suspect vehicle. At 6:20 p.m. as a Bismarck Police officer was driving through the area, he saw a vehicle matching the description drive up and park, and saw the suspect enter a mobile home. As the suspect was believed to be armed, the officer waited for additional officers to arrive before attempting to make contact with him.
Additional officers responded and set up a perimeter. At 7:50 p.m. the suspect came out of the house and started walking quickly toward the suspect vehicle. Officers issued verbal commands to the suspect to stop and show his hands. The suspect did not follow commands but opened the car door and entered the car. He continued to disobey commands and made a quick and deliberate movement as if reaching for a weapon, and he was shot by two Bismarck Police Officers.
Officers immediately rendered first aid. He was taken to Sanford Medical Center, where he is in surgery. A revolver was recovered from the front seat of the vehicle.
One officer has four years of experience with BPD. The other has 2.5 years of experience. The officers have been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
The case has been turned over to BCI for investigation.
