Snow removal crews are making progress in clearing residential streets. Most streets have had one or two passes with a plow to allow emergency services quicker response. Snow Emergency routes and the majority of Major Arterial routes are completed. Residential streets are now the primary focus of snow removal efforts. School routes will be cleared like residential routes in the order of plowing since there is no school this week. They will be widened before school starts next week.
The City is divided up into seven plow units. In the units where City snow removal operators have made a pass, the streets are being widened. In other residential areas, contractors are working to make a first pass through neighborhoods. After tonight, most all streets should have had at least one pass made through them.
Due to the depth of snow in residential streets we must push the snow off the street, which has delayed the clearing of residential neighborhoods. Snow removal operators are working to give everyone the ability to have access. It is very slow-going. We want to thank residents for their continued patience as we work to clear the streets and make them passable. We also want to thank the contractors who are assisting with the snow removal efforts.
The Bismarck Snow Emergency Declaration has been lifted and is no longer in effect. The Snow Emergency routes are cleared and in good driving condition. Parking is now allowed in designated areas on snow emergency routes. In some areas, including emergency routes, streets are narrowed by snow. Please, drive carefully. Be courteous to other drivers in areas narrowed by snow and allow them to merge into traffic.
Please use caution at intersections where snow piles may obstruct your view. Move slowly into the intersection before continuing forward to be sure traffic is clear before you proceed.
Snow removal crews and contractors are working to clear the streets. Landfill personnel have been working to clear alleys on the garbage routes so they can get the garbage trucks through.
We ask that contractors cleaning parking lots do not push the snow into the street or across the street onto the boulevard. If you’ve already done this, please remove the snow.
