Bismarck Roads and Streets Supervisor, Keith Glass alerts residents about the significant public safety danger of snow tunnels, caves or forts located in the snow bank along roadways on City right-of-way – namely, snow banks on boulevards in residential areas.
Snow equipment operators have observed a number of snow tunnels, caves and forts located on boulevards in snow banks during snow removal operations. Operators have no way of knowing if there are children playing in them. This presents a serious public safety hazard that puts children and operators at risk during snow removal operations.
Residents are asked to please remove snow caves, tunnels and forts from boulevards immediately. Residents should discourage the construction of snow caves, tunnels and forts in the street right-of-way snow banks and boulevards and keep them behind the sidewalk or on private property only.
