At approximately 18:24 PM on Wednesday, December 26, 2017, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of smoke and flames in an apartment building on the 700 block of East Avenue B. The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched to investigate. The first arriving fire crew gave an initial report of nothing showing from the exterior of the structure and the occupants evacuating, the fire crew established command and went to investigate. The investigating fire crew found smoke in the common hallway but no flames. A melted laundry basket was found in the laundry area of the apartment building and there was limited fire damage to an adjacent wall. Fire crews removed the damaged material and ventilated the building after which the occupants were allowed to return to their homes. Five fire department apparatus and 18 firefighters were dispatched to the scene. Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control. The cause of the fire was undetermined.
At approximately 07:02 AM on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of fire and smoke at a commercial office building on the 900 block of South 7th Street. The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched to the scene. The first arriving fire crew gave an initial report of a generator on fire with flames and black smoke showing, the fire crew established command, deployed a fire attack hoseline, and attacked the fire. The fire was extinguished quickly using one fire attack hoseline and 30 gallons of water, under extreme cold weather conditions. Additional fire units arrived and assisted with extinguishment, and overhaul. Fire damage was limited to the generator unit and there was no fire spread to the office building. Four fire department apparatus and 10 firefighters were dispatched to the scene. Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control. Montana Dakota Utilities was called to the scene to secure utilities. The cause of the fire was undetermined and damage to the generator was estimated at approximately $5000.
