[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Public Works to Celebrate Public Works Day May 19

Bismarck APWA Celebration

Bismarck Public Works in collaboration with the North Dakota American Public Works Association (APWA) will celebrate the “Power of Public Works” with a Public Works Day celebration event on May 19, 2018, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., at the Public Works building located at 601 S. 26th St., Bismarck, ND.

The inaugural Public Works Day Celebration  will include hands on activities and demonstrations such as creating plastic bottle bird feeders and tree cookie necklaces, the chance to win a ride to school in a public works vehicle, snow plow blade decorating, snow plow art displays by Century and Legacy High School students, automated vehicle location (AVS) and (UAS) drone demonstrations, snow plows, construction equipment, emoji activities, a visit from Forrest Von Flickentale, a water analytics demonstration, free water sample pH testing, an opportunity to see how salt water beet juice brine is made, and more! The celebration event has something for everyone – adults, kids, and families with lots of activities for all. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend.

Tours of the Public Works building will take place at 1:30 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Static displays of public works equipment will be located on the south side of the parking lot and parking will be available on the north side of the parking lot. Rain or shine the event will take place. In case of inclement weather, all activities will take place inside the public works building.

The American Public Works Association honors those who work in professions that provide and maintain public facilities and services during National Public Works Week, May 20-26, 2018. Public Works Week celebrates the contributions of Public Works professionals and the role they play in keeping their communities safe and functioning smoothly.
