[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Moves street activation demonstration project to be modified

Bismarck Moves street activation demonstration project paint modified

The temporary Bismarck Moves street activation demonstration taking place in Bismarck will soon be modified. The demonstration project is designed to obtain public input while testing temporary potential street improvements to improve safety and enhance the community. The city of Bismarck has received a great deal of public input on the demonstration project and is enthused by the participation.  Many of the comments have focused upon the colors. The design and colors utilized during the street activation demonstration do not represent the actual colors and exact design that may be used during a potential permanent phase of such a transportation safety project.

Due to public feedback and the need to refresh the temporary paint, the color patterns will be changed. Color adjustments will be made on the curb extensions at Fifth Street and Main Avenue in downtown Bismarck. The curb extensions test safety techniques that make pedestrian crossings with foot traffic more visible for vehicle drivers and shorten the distance pedestrians cross on the roadway.

The street activation demonstrations help communities get feedback and the city of Bismarck encourages residents to provide more input once the modifications are in place. With the color change in place, it will provide the opportunity for additional comments to be focused upon the safety features and walkability of the project.

Pop up demonstrations ultimately save money by allowing communities to test changes before investing in permanent infrastructure the public may wish modified. The public has the opportunity to use and see the demonstrations and then are encouraged to provide feedback through an online survey at: http://bit.ly/NDMoves.
