Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health (BBPH), in partnership with the Dakota Zoo, will host a family-friendly event, "Born to Breastfeed," at the Dakota Zoo, 602 Riverside Park Rd., on Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 11 A.M. - 1 P.M. The event is being held as a kick-off to bring awareness of the World Health Organization’s, World Breastfeeding Week, Aug. 1 - 7. This year’s theme is “The Foundation of Life.”
During the event, families can view zoo exhibits, enjoy refreshments, participate in a photo session, and learn about breastfeeding from a lactation consultant who will be available to answer questions and provide information.
"Breastfeeding is the biological way to feed a baby," said Jessica Linneman, RN and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant with BBPH. "Breastfeeding protects babies from infections at the earliest stages of their lives, and truly is the foundation of life. Plus, it has health benefits for moms too, like reduced rates of developing certain cancers later in life. We invite all families to come out to the zoo to learn more about breastfeeding and get their questions answered."
The event will take place inside the meeting space in the Discovery Center. Regular zoo entry fees apply.
