[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department responds to a fire in a trailer home.


At approximately 2:32 AM on Friday, September 7, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of a structure fire at a trailer home on fire on the 700 block of South 12th Street. The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched to investigate. The first arriving fire crew reported a trailer home with heavy smoke and heavy flames showing from the outside. The fire crew established command and conducted a scene size-up.

The occupants of the home reported that all persons were evacuated but that a pet cat was missing. The fire crew deployed a hose line and attacked the fire. Additional units arrived on scene and assisted with primary search, establishing water supply, and ventilation. Once the fire was extinguished, fire crews conducted an overhaul operation to find and extinguish any smoldering materials.

Six fire department apparatus and sixteen firefighters were dispatched to the scene. Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control. Metro Area Ambulance transported multiple occupants of the trailer home to Sanford for treatment. Crisis Care Chaplaincy and the American Red Cross were contacted to support the occupants.

There was substantial damage to the structure. The building was occupied at the time of the fire. There were injuries to occupants of the home and the occupants of the home were displaced by the fire. Fire crews found a pet cat inside the home that had perished. There were no injuries to first responders. This fire was started by a burning container of grease and the cause of the fire has been classified as accidental.
