At approximately 12:00 PM on Tuesday, October 16, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of a fire at the Bobcat Company Manufacturing Facility at 521 South 22nd Street. The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched to investigate.
The first arriving fire crew reported smoke showing from the south end of the building. The fire crew established command, and made contact with a company representative who reported that all occupants had evacuated the building. Fire crews entered the structure to investigate and found fire in an air filtration system in the welding area. The fire crews deployed a hose line, removed the air filters and extinguished the fire. Once the fire was extinguished, fire crews conducted an overhaul operation to find and extinguish any smoldering materials, then ventilated the building. When the smoke was cleared from the building the occupants were allowed back inside.
Six fire department apparatus and seventeen firefighters were dispatched to the scene. Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control. Metro Area Ambulance was on scene to provide medical support. The fire damage was contained to the air filters within the air filtration system. The building was occupied at the time of the fire. There were no injuries to the building occupants. There were no injuries to first responders. The fire was started by sparks from welding operations and the cause has been classified as accidental.
