[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department extinguishes small fire in air filter system at Bobcat Manufacturing Facili

At approximately 12:42 PM on Tuesday, December 4, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of a small fire in an air filter system at the Bobcat Company Manufacturing Facility at 521 South 22nd Street. 

The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched to investigate.  The first arriving fire crew reported nothing showing from the exterior.  The fire crew established command, and made contact with a company representative who reported that all occupants had evacuated the building.  The company representative stated that the fire was contained to an air filter unit.  Fire crews entered the structure to investigate and found a small amount of smoke coming from the air filter unit.  The fire crew removed the air filters from the building and extinguished the smoldering materials.  Once the fire was extinguished, fire crews conducted an overhaul operation to identify any hot spots, then ventilated the structure.  When the smoke was cleared from the building the occupants were allowed back inside. 

Two fire department apparatus and six firefighters were dispatched to the scene.  Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control.  Metro Area Ambulance was on scene to provide medical support. 

The fire damage was contained to the air filters within the air filtration system.  The building was occupied at the time of the fire.  There were no injuries to the building occupants and there were no injuries to first responders.  There was no damage to the air filtration system. The fire was started by sparks from welding operations and the cause has been classified as accidental.
