[ARCHIVED] Historic Preservation Commission seeking candidates

Bismarck Mayor Steve Bakken is looking for candidates interested in serving on the Historic Preservation Commission. The volunteer committee has two open positions for terms through March 2024. Individuals residing in the City of Bismarck who have experience in architecture, history, architectural history, planning, archeology, or other historic preservation related disciplines, such as American studies, American civilization, cultural geography or cultural anthropology are eligible for this appointment.

Interested applicants should complete an application form describing their qualifications, background and why they would like to serve on the Commission. A copy of the applicant’s resume is a submittal requirement. Complete applications should be sent to:

Forms can also be obtained by calling the Community Development Department at (701) 355-1840 or may be picked up at the department office at 221 N 5th Street, Bismarck. Additional information on the position and the appointment process can also be obtained by contacting the department office.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday, March 2, 2021. It is anticipated that the new board member will be announced at the March 23, 2021, Board of City Commissioners’ meeting.

 The Historic Preservation Commission is a seven-member advisory board that carries out matters related to the Historic Preservation Ordinance of the City of Bismarck. The Historic Preservation Commission’s responsibilities include advising on matters related to nominations to the National Register of Historic Places, working to promote and educate about the City’s history, heritage, historic properties and past citizens and serving as local historic resource for citizens and other City Boards/Commission seeking historic expertise.

 

The Historic Preservation Commission board meets the third Wednesday of every month at 3:30 p.m. in the City-County Office Building, 221 N 5th Street, Bismarck.
