[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department responds to residential house fire

At approximately 6:00 PM on Sunday, March 7th, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of a shed on fire located next to a house and near an apartment complex. The outside of the home, located on the 300 block of South 11th Street, was reported to have smoke and fire showing. The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched, along with the Bismarck Police Department and Metro Ambulance.

Upon arrival, crews stated that they had smoke and fire showing on the exterior of the home and it had extended into the attic space where they had brown smoke showing through the roof vents. It was reported that all occupants were believed to have evacuated.

The fire crew established command and pulled lines to begin extinguishing the fire and to search the residence. As other fire crews arrived they were assigned to secure a water supply, pull additional lines to attack the fire and shut down utilities to the home. Primary and secondary searches were conducted and confirmed that occupants were out of the home at the time of the fire. Once the fire was extinguished, an overhaul operation was conducted to find any remaining hot spots.

There were no injuries to any civilians or fire personnel. Five residents from the home have been displaced. Chaplaincy Service was on scene to assist with personal needs and lodging of residents in need.

Six fire department apparatus and 17 fire fighters were dispatched to the scene. The Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control. Metro Area Ambulance was on scene to provide medical support. MDU assisted with securing utilities.

There was substantial fire and smoke damage to the interior and exterior of the structure on the main floor. An investigation is currently being conducted to determine the fire origin and cause. Cause of the fire is remains under investigation.
