[ARCHIVED] National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Set For October 23

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Oct. 23. The aim of this day is to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

A social media campaign is being launched to bring attention to the critical importance of the proper disposal of prescription drugs. Social media messages are being displayed Oct. 18 – Oct. 23 to educate, inform and bring attention to Drug Take Back Day. Drug take back is vitally important to help prevent all overdoses and to support efforts underway to confront the opioid crisis in our communities. Depositing unused meds in the Take Back containers located at participating locations in your community is a simple step to limit access to un-used medications to prevent overdose prescription drug abuse. You can find the Take Back location nearest you at www.takeback.nd.gov.

Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue, leading to accidental poisoning, overdose, and abuse. Many teenagers abusing prescription drugs get them from family and friends or home medicine cabinets. “Now is the time, to go through your house and collect unused medication and properly dispose of them at a local Take Back site,” said Sue Kahler.
