The City of Bismarck’s Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is seeking the public’s input on historic preservation opinions in Bismarck through a five-minute online survey.

The HPC is in the early stages of creating the city’s first Historic Preservation Plan. The purpose of this plan is to provide resources and information on relevant historic preservation tax credits, legislation and organizations and to guide future preservation activities. This implementation program will include several specific goals and objectives.

Every year, the HPC conducts historic preservation-related projects and activities. Part of the survey will include asking what has worked so far, and what can be done differently in the future. This community input will be taken into consideration and applied to the goals and objectives within the Historic Preservation Plan.

“The creation of this Plan has been a priority of the HPC since the Commission was established in 2019, and the HPC is excited to see it completed,” said Community Development Planner Lauren Oster. “It will be the first official consolidated document of its kind for Bismarck, involving community collaboration, and will highlight the community’s shared vision and goals for future historic activities and development.”

The survey is available online and will be open until Friday, May 8.

If you have any additional comments or inquiries related to current HPC activities, please contact Oster by email or by phone at 701-355-1846.
