[ARCHIVED] City of Bismarck to Celebrate Arbor Day September 23

The Bismarck Forestry Division will host a community recognition program and ceremonial tree planting Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 1:30 PM, at Optimist Park, 2098 N 16th St., Bismarck.  The public is welcome and invited to attend.  Please bring and wear a mask while in attendance, especially when 6 feet social distancing can’t be achieved.  The 2020 Arbor Day theme is: “Trees Are Terrific!”.

Each year a ceremonial Arbor Day tree is dedicated to a local citizen whose efforts have made a significant contribution to Bismarck’s urban forest.  The 2020 ceremonial tree planting will be dedicated to Greg Smith in recognition of his over 21-year career with the Bismarck Parks and       Recreation District.

The Arbor Day Ceremony will include Apple Seed Awards presented for 2019 landscape beautification efforts of public property as well as recognition of 2019 Partners in Planting sponsors – community minded organizations that have partnered with the City to provide funds for a matching grant to help home owners plant street trees.

Mayor Bakken, will be in attendance to read the Arbor Day Proclamation and give remarks.  Fifth-grade students from Shiloh Christian School will also take part in the Arbor Day ceremony.

The City of Bismarck will receive the 43rd consecutive Tree City U.S.A. Award and national designation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management.

The tree planting will take place (weather permitting) at the close of the program.
